Axopar & Mercury partner with Chasing Canguro for world record attempt
Four weeks out from commencing the world record attempt, the Chasing Canguro team is pleased to announce our final partners – Axopar a Finnish brand of premium motorboats, and Mercury Marine – the world’s leading manufacturer of recreational marine propulsion engines. The award-winning Axopar 37 R Sun Top, capable of handling all conditions, will be powered by the latest Mercury twin Verado 300hp V8 engines.
In order to achieve success, having a well-built and reliable boat is paramount. The award-winning Axopar 37 R Sun Top, capable of handling all types of water conditions and powered with the latest Mercury twin Verado 300hp V8 engines, will take the team from Tangier, Morocco along the coastlines of Spain, France, Monaco, Italy and Croatia, and back to the finishing line in Cervia Italy.
In 1969, Mercury provided Harry Luther with twin Mercury 100 HP engines to put on his boat Miss Pepsi, the first twin rig boat to compete in water-ski racing in Australia. The Luther / Mercury history continues 49 years on; Alex is thrilled Mercury wants to re-create Luther family history with him: “together with Axopar, we have the perfect combination in place to set the team up for success in the anticipated conditions; with both reliability and the ultimate in performance assured by the Mercury twin engines.”
Axopar customers can now differentiate and characterise the look and feel of their new Axopar by ordering a BRABUS Line Trim Package – adding value with discreet exterior trim & styling enhancements.
Comprising a series of carefully chosen visual improvements, BRABUS Line Trim Package is available across all Axopar 28 and 37 foot models. Perfect for customers looking to create a little extra ‘stand-out’ without breaking the bank!
On Saturday 7th July, Alex Luther and the Chasing Canguro team celebrated their incredible World Record Mediterranean marathon, which finished in Cervia, Italy. On the evening of Thursday 5th July, Alex reached his objective to break the previously unbeaten World Record set in 1970 by his grandfather, Harry Luther, waterskiing from Tangiers, Morocco, and tracking the Spanish, French, Monaco and Italian coastlines to Pula, Croatia.
After a gruelling 11 hours water-skiing through rough sea conditions, Alex Luther reached Monaco harbour to receive a very special welcome by H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco. This marked the end of Day 4 of the ‘Chasing Canguro’ World Record water-skiing attempt, which sees Alex attempting to replicate the historical feat that his grandfather, Harry Luther, undertook almost 50 years ago.
