Get into gear on the High Coast trails

Although you can reach the High Coast by road, the ideal way to access the full range of islands and trails is by boat, and once you reach your destination you’ll need the right tools to let go of your troubles and explore the stunning nature.

The World Heritage area stretches over 100 km from north to south, with the Skuleskogen National Park at its center. The High Coast is best explored by foot or bike, with Sweden’s second-longest hiking trail of 40km attracting hundreds of hikers from all over the world each year.

The small island of Trysunda, with its namesake village, has been named Sweden’s most beautiful island, combining beautiful natural scenery and a specially preserved cultural environment.

Arriving here by boat immediately generates an unforgettable first impression as you glide between the headlands into the U-shaped bay, and a postcard-perfect view opens up before you. Visiting this incredible island is like walking around a living postcard.

There are some great secluded coves for swimming, which can be reached via the walking trails that run through the woods, with the sandy beach of Björnviken on the east side of the island being the perfect location to the beach a shallow draft boat and begin your adventure.

Framed between mountains and hills, the idyllic fishing village is the best preserved in the High Coast and it’s impossible not to appreciate the raw beauty of the island and surrounding area once you begin to explore. For the best views on the island, take the trail up to Kapellberget, from where you can admire the stark contrast between the mountainous mainland and the idyllic forested nature reserve upon which you stand.
