A LAUNCH LIKE NO OTHER

The boating event of the season.

Lights, camera, action! The phenomenal new Axopar 22 range was launched to the world on Tuesday 8th December with typical Axopar flair and panache, exploding onto the marine market like a firework display in the night sky!

Helsinki’s Train Factory, in the Vallila area of the city, is an enormous, charming industrial facility that dates back more than a century to 1901. It was formerly the manufacturing site for wooden railway passenger carriages, and later for maintaining railway wagons, employing over 1500 people at its peak.

After several weeks of design and planning, the Axopar crew descended upon one of the Train Factory halls with the most character, to spend over a week constructing a professional film set, the likes of which has never been seen in the marine industry for a product launch. Such a location always presents challenges, but with the right team and partners, the space was transformed into a spectacular juxtaposition of industrial charm and modern beauty.

The Axopar 22s were launched in the industrial and charismatic Train Factory.

Waiting to be unveiled under cloth were the incredible new Axopar 22 Spyder, in crisp white, and the crown jewel of the collection – the stunning Axopar x Jobe Revolve XXII in jaw-dropping turquoise.

Finnish television personality Tea Khalifa joined Axopar’s Jan-Erik Viitala to co-host this day of in-depth discussions about Axopar as a company, our Adventure brand image and of course the incredible new Axopar 22 range. The pair were further joined by naval architect and designer, Jarkko Jämsén, founding partner of the Aivan! design agency, who has been leading the concept and design development work together with Axopar for several years.

The trio discussed the inspiration and challenges behind the design of the new Axopar 22 range, the special features that will excite customers around the world, and how our production methods have changed when compared to other Axopar boat ranges. After unveiling the new Axopar 22 Spyder, one special highlight was a detailed explanation of the design of the Axopar 22’s hull, which is the first time that the design of an Axopar hull has been openly discussed by our team on a public forum.

But the fun didn’t stop there, because the range’s flagship model Axopar X Jobe Revolve XXII was waiting to be revealed too! The team at Jobe Sports in the Netherlands joined us via video call to discuss the birth of a partnership between kindred corporate spirits, explaining why they were drawn to work with Axopar to attract more people to get active on the water worldwide. Jan-Erik Viitala, in turn, reinforced the passion behind this partnership by telling viewers how the companies share similar passions to innovate new products that will encourage new and experienced boaters and water fanatics to create their own adventures.

DAY II

ON THE WATER

Undeniable fun meets supreme safety, whatever the weather.

Zip up your jacket and pull on your boots, because we’re taking the Axopar 22s out on the Baltic Sea! We showed you these phenomenal new boats under spotlights, and made promises about their drivability, so the only thing left to do was show you them in action!

There are few places we know of that can compare to Suomenlinna Island, an incredible UNESCO World Heritage site, which was originally built in the 1700s as a maritime fortress to defend Helsinki. Nowadays it’s a popular summer hang-out spot for tourists, and favourite test site for Axopar’s newest models whatever the weather.

Day 2 of our adventure started early with the launch of our fleet of Axopar 22s, directly into the Baltic Sea.

At a time when most Finns have already taken their boats out of the water for the winter, we were somewhat conspicuous putting ours in, and not just because we were doing it in style with a stunning new Land Rover Defender. It’s a fantastic new experience for us to be able to bring an Axopar to the water and launch it straight from a trailer, so if you were in the area you may have wondered why the crazy people putting boats into the sea in winter were doing so with smiles on their faces. The truth is, this is a game changer for us, because we now have a perfect product for customers who need a trailerable boat that also handles like a dream.

Starting at the guest marina on Suomenlinna, Jan-Erik and our fantastic hostess Tea Khalifa got suited up in heavy duty boating suits, ready to meet December’s weather head-on.

Whilst the weather was a bit stormy at times, it could have been much worse, and we also had some milder breaks, so we were keen to make the most of the opportunities when they arose.

A launch like no other.

We pride ourselves on the suitability of our products for beginner boaters, and none are better than the new Axopar 22. Having only played with jet skis in the past, but never boats, Tea represents the perfect example of a new boater who will benefit from choosing an Axopar 22. By contrast, Jan-Erik has been boating pretty much since he has been walking, so Tea was in safe hands for her lesson.

Jan-Erik started by guiding Tea through some of the benefits of the boat, such as the excellent all-round visibility and ergonomic driving position. After a short lesson on slow driving around harbours, an excited Tea was keen to have a try herself, and boy was she like a kid in a candy shop!

Tea interviewing Axopar’s CEO Mikael Heikfolk and Jan-Erik.

As enthusiastic as Tea was, everyone needs an occasional break, so she took the opportunity back at the marina to grab a hot cup of coffee and chat with Axopar’s CEO, Mikael Heikfolk. Mikael explained his role leading the company and he, along with Jan-Erik, gave a great overview of how Axopar has grown rapidly over the past few years, bringing onboard many experts from various fields to enable us to continually innovate and go from strength to strength.

With a better understanding of Axopar’s story and ethos fresh in her mind, Tea was keen to find out more about the boats we had available in the water, so Jan-Erik gave her a tour of the most important features.

From seating layouts that allow for easy accessibility and storage spaces with optional toilets, to superior stability and driver ergonomics, Jan-Erik explained the in-depth thinking that went into the design of the Axopar 22 range.

By this point wild horses wouldn’t keep Tea from finding out how fast she could drive one of these incredible new boats, so the pair set off once again with smiles on their faces. Despite the bumpy sea, Tea remained confident under Jan-Erik’s watchful eye, and it wasn’t long before she was jumping our camera boat’s wake and shouting with joy. This was truly the perfect opportunity for us to show someone new to boating just how pleasurable and safe the experience can be in a relatively small boat.

Before we finished the day, we were joined for a while by Powerboat & Rib magazine from the UK, who didn’t let the Helsinki chill put them off at all, even entertaining our TV crew and the locals by insisting upon testing a Jobe wakeboard! All in all, it’s difficult to deny the impact that these boats had on everyone who had a chance to test them, from seasoned boaters to fresh newcomers.
